The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a specialized body of the United Nations. It was founded in 1945 with the objective to contribute to world peace and security through education, science, culture and communication.

Dedicated to guiding countries toward more efficient management of their own development, through natural resources and cultural values. With the final aim being to modernize and evolve the nations of the world, without losing their identity and cultural diversity.

In 1998, UNESCO declared the Rock Art of the Iberian Mediterranean Basin, world heritage listed. They are cave art sites that are situated along the Mediterranean littoral of the Iberian Peninsula. They are of great significance and they show in a vivid way a crucial stage of the human evolution through paintings, which for their style and themes are unique examples from this period.
